COVID-19 Information for Taxi/Private hire drivers

As a result of the government’s advice regarding Covid 19 Milton Keynes Council has made the following changes to its Taxi Licensing Service to protect both staff and licence holders.  These changes are as follows:

  • We have closed Bleak Hall to licence holders and no longer undertake in-house vehicle testing.  Drivers can now renew their badges/plates via post and use their current MOT certificates (within 14 days of licence expiry) to show that their vehicle is roadworthy
  • Complaints/enforcement is conducted by telephone/post.  Drivers will still be suspended / revoked if sufficiently in breach of Council policy. A fully automated online system will be introduced in early 2021 so drivers will no longer need to attend the taxi office to renew their licenses

As Taxi/Private hire drivers are still permitted to lawfully work we are not automatically extending renewals without appropriate checks and fee payment.  Some drivers have asked Taxi Licensing to exempt them from taxi fees due to their reduced income and they are being referred to the Government’s scheme for compensating self-employed workers.
