The council offers a range of permits which are needed to park in a permit zone. Please note that:

  • purchasing a permit does not guarantee you a parking space
  • parking in a permit zone without a valid permit may result in the issue of a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN)
  • it can take up to 5 working days to process a permit application
  • our permits are virtual - you will not receive a paper permit 
  • you are required to create an individual account to apply for your permit
  • permits will only be valid after you have received the electronic receipt for your payment

Applying for a permit

Register or log in to your permit account and read the area specific guidance notes before applying.  Please make sure that you have the required documents to hand before you start the application or your application may be delayed. 

Once you have created an account, applied for your permit and uploaded any required documents, you will be sent a confirmation email that the application is being reviewed. You will be then be contacted and advised to log in to your account to make payment unless the permit is a Carer, Ultra-Low Green Permit, V1 Vaccination or Visitor Day Vouchers for Loughton and Central Milton Keynes.

To add a second, or new, vehicle to your account you will need to log in and you will need to always select the vehicle you are parking.

Which permit do I need?

The following permits are available here at Milton Keynes City Council.

  • Resident - temporary one month permits are also available for new residents
  • Visitor or day vouchers - you will need to change the vehicle registration on your account when your visitors arrive by logging in to your account, selecting a visitor permit and adding the registration details
  • Full time employee
  • Part time employee - permits are available for two different sessions, 7am to 2pm or 11am to 6pm
  • Commuter
  • Car share
  • Green for Ultra-low emission (under 75g/km) vehicles
  • Green for Low emission (between 76g/km and 100g/km) vehicles
  • Carers - available for anyone required to make house calls as a part of their normal duty as an employed carer of a public service body or an officially registered company 
  • Hotel and conference (daily)

Carers Parking Permits

A carers parking permit can be used in any residents parking places owned by MK City Council without displaying a residents permit. 

Please note that the permit is only valid when the carer is making a house call to the resident and the vehicle must not be parked any longer than the duration of the house call.

From December 2021: MK City Council employees are required to show a letter from HR confirming that you are a carer required to visit the patient at their place of residence where a resident permit parking scheme is in effect.

From 1 July NHS staff, volunteers and care workers can receive a 30% discount when they park in a standard purple space (signed as E1 for employee permit parking). Register here to take you to the registration screen for RingGo and then directly through to the E1 employee and key worker permit application once you have logged in or registered for the first time.

Enforcement

Our Civil Enforcement Officers will check your registration number against the  database to confirm you have a valid parking permit.  You will be advised of the application reference number by email.  

Please note that we may ask you to provide address evidence or your V5 Logbook at a later date for fraud and audit purpose.

Refunds

You can apply for a refund for your permit request a refund at any time in any valid permit period without incurring additional administrations costs.

Refunds will either be paid to the debit/credit card used to pay for the permit or by BACS. There are no cheque or cash refunds. Any refund is based on the date the refund application is received by the Parking Services Team and may take up to 4 weeks.

How much will I receive?

Annual, half yearly and quarterly permits will be refunded based on the number of whole months remaining including the month the permit was returned using the Monthly Permit Rate for:

  • employee permit
  • commuter permit
  • car share permit
  • green low emission permit

We will refund 50% of the cost of the annual resident or visitor parking permit if there is more than six months remaining on it.
