Domestic abuse

Milton Keynes City Council (MKCC) are committed to assisting, supporting, and working with any tenant and members of their households experiencing, or threatened with, domestic abuse. Any disclosure will be treated sensitively and as a matter of urgency.

If you are unable to occupy your home

If you are unable to occupy your home due to the risk of domestic abuse, you should consider whether you can stay with a trusted family member or friend. If you are unable to occupy your home and you require emergency accommodation, you may present to any local authority of your choosing. You should speak to their homeless team and explain you are unable to remain in your current home due to the risk of domestic abuse.

If the local authority you have presented to requires information from your housing team, they can contact us on ASB@milton-keynes.gov.uk. This email is monitored by our duty team during normal business hours.

If you require emergency accommodation in Milton Keynes, you can contact the council’s Housing Solutions Team on:

Phone: 01908 253481 (office hours)

Phone: 01908 254111 (out of hours)

Email: homeless.enquiries@milton-keynes.gov.uk

Postal address: Civic, 1 Saxon Gate East, Milton Keynes MK9 3EJ

If you need to speak to your housing team

You can speak to your housing team should you need support regarding your tenancy. If you require support with moving or need advice in relation to your tenancy, you can contact your housing team on 01908 691691 or by email at: ASB@milton-keynes.gov.uk

Every report of domestic abuse will be handled through our duty team, who will aim to contact you within 1 business day.

Should we assess your case as requiring immediate further action, your case officer will agree with you the next steps. We will discuss with you the options which are available to you and help you to access the appropriate support. These may include:

  • Advice on how you can access support services.
  • How to obtain family court orders, such as non-molestation and occupation orders.
  • The measures you can take, and the measures we can take, to help keep you safe (including security measures via the Sanctuary scheme).
  • Advice on how to remove a joint tenant from the tenancy, or any other issues which can arise in relation to the tenancy.
