We will be going ahead with option C, sharing officers between schemes. From 1 September each scheme will receive 18.5 hours of support per week.
Outcome of Sheltered Housing Consultation
What's it all about?
We will be updating our Sheltered Housing Officer service to meet customer needs, comply with new regulatory standards like Consumer Standards and ensure value for money.
From 14 October 2024 to 5 January 2025 we consulted with residents on our sheltered housing service. We have listened to your feedback and are making changes based on your suggestions and vote. You can find details on this page.
Part Two: Sheltered Housing Officer Shared Service
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the consultation about the future of our sheltered housing service, which ended on 5 January.
- 34% of people (171 tenants) chose option A, to continue with the existing service at an increased cost
- 19% (92 tenants) chose option B, to stop the service completely
- 47% (233 tenants) chose option C, to reduce the service by sharing officers between schemes
We shared the results with our residents. Here is a copy of the letter.
What's next?
What's the cost?
The charge to you for the new service will be £12.96 per week, which factors in increases to national insurance and pay since the first estimate was made. The full economic cost of the service to Milton Keynes City Council is £14.35 per week. However, the Council has chosen to not pass the full cost on to you, the tenants. We have been able to make some technical changes in how housing benefit/universal credit applies, which means tenants who receive full benefits towards their rent will no longer need to pay anything for the service from 1 September 2025. Tenants who receive partial benefits will receive a contribution towards the charges.
In the next section you can read the reports leading to this decision
