A drop-in event created by the City Council will bring together local specialist organisations with residents who provide regular care for a friend or family member.
The ‘Carers Support Event’ will be held on Wednesday 10 June (11am – 1pm) during the UK-wide Carers Week, to give local people opportunities to speak with professionals. The free event will take place at Simpson Day Centre (MK6 3AF) and is open to all MK residents plus their friends and family who want to learn more.
Alongside services from across the City Council, a wide range of organisations including Age UK, Healthwatch and the NHS will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.
There will also be the chance to meet representatives from Citizens Advice and Alzheimer’s Society, who are part of the City Council’s dedicated Carers Support Service which was launched last year.
The service combines a range of specialist assistance for unpaid carers of all ages, with face-to-face and phone support plus online help. Carers can get help to unlock money and benefits, make plans for emergencies, access housing options and much more. There are also opportunities for carers to meet other carers who are in similar situations.
The City Council estimates that there could be 21,000 unpaid carers in MK, including many young carers who look after family members who could not cope without their help. This may be due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction.

There is limited free parking outside Simpson Day Centre on Simpson Road and several other carparks within a few minutes’ walk. Light refreshments will be available throughout the event for all guests.
