Waste DPD Submission

The Waste DPD includes the waste Core Strategy, Allocations and Development Control policies relating to the management of household, commercial, industrial, construction and demolition waste.

The Public Consultation Process

The Waste Development Plan Document was submitted to the Secretary of State and the Planning Inspectorate for independent examination on 31 January 2007. At the same time the public were invited to put comments in writing to the Council. The closing date for responses to the consultation was on the 14th March 2007.

Sustainability Appraisal Report

The Waste Development Plan Document has been subject to Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment. The purpose of Sustainability Appraisal is to ensure the integration of social, environmental and economic considerations into the preparation of the document.

The report is updated by a Supplementary Report (including an appraisal matrix) which appraises the Submission Document. The documents can be accessed below.

Appropriate Assessment - The Appropriate Assessment is an important part of the Sustainability Appraisal. The document concluded that the Milton Keynes Waste Development Plan policies and proposals would not affect any Natura 2000 sites. The document can be viewed below.

Issues and Options Consultation Report- Details methods and results of consultation from the Issues and Options Stage in August/September 2005, which was carried out jointly with consultation on the Municipal Waste Strategy.

Citizens Advice Group on Waste

The Council maintains a Citizens Panel. In May 2005 this comprised a group of 1,500 residents who has stated that they were prepared to take part in consultations. A letter was sent to all the Citizens Panel asking if they were prepared to take part in a waste consultation. From the respondents, 24 were chosen to be representative of the population in Milton Keynes. The Citizens Advisory Group on Waste (known as CAGoW) was provided with independent facilitators and asked to make recommendations to the Council on the following areas: a) Municipal Waste Strategy policies and principles; b) targets for recycling/composting; c) options for future waste collection and disposal; and d) the approach to designating sites for future waste management.
