Our Speech and Language Therapy team supports Adults with learning disabilities on a range of communication and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) with the aim of providing functional support and promoting independence. 

How we can help: 

We work closely with our team colleagues (nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians) to provide a multidisciplinary, whole person approach that's tailored to you. We work with you to achieve the outcomes you want, which are functional in nature, focusing on (but not limited to):

• communication assessments 
• social stories 
• visual prompt cards for particular needs or routines 
• dysphagia (eating and drinking difficulties) 
• total communication resources 
• training and modelling use of alternative communication aids 
• work placement support (visuals and training) 
• communication books and passports 
• signing support 
• visuals and support with Mental Capacity Act assessments 
• training – communication/signing/dysphagia
