Consultation

Milton Keynes City Council is committed to improving walking and cycling facilities so that all residents can make greener transport choices.

We are proposing to create a Redway link between Fairfields and Stony Stratford that will allow cyclists and pedestrians to travel safely between these two areas and access the wider redway network.

The link will go through Tudor Gardens, Calverton End using part of the existing footpath which will tie-in with the new Redway.

We have designed the scheme to bring the most benefits to the local area, looking at local traffic levels and speeds and how we can make improvements to the road environment. The proposal shows the best location for this redway link as there are no landowner issues or utilities in the ground.

As part of the scheme traffic calming measures (speed humps) will be installed along with a 20mph zone and part of this road will also be resurfaced. We will also install post and rail fencing in parts of the grass verge.

You can view the plans here.

There is no footway linking to Fairfields, so this is an enhancement to an existing route towards Stony Stratford.

To build the new redway link, we will need to remove 14 trees (some have been affected by ash dieback in the area). We are working closely with the Parks Trust on this and will plant 14 new trees nearby to compensate.

Once the statutory consultation is complete and all comments have been reviewed, we anticipate that any works would start from April 2024 and should take around five-eight weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The resurfacing will be done over the course of three days, off-peak hours. This will mean there will be no through traffic whilst the resurfacing is being carried out. We will maintain access for emergency services and pedestrians at all times. There will be notices on site prior to the works beginning, to confirm the dates to minimise disruption in the area.
