Update - July 2026
Work on the Queensway public realm improvements is moving along really well, and the changes to the high street are now easy to see. New block paving, kerbs and tree pits are being put in, along with planting, street furniture and features to help prevent anti-social parking. All of this is helping to create a space that feels safer, greener and more inviting for everyone. While there have been a few delays due to the weather and some tricky underground works, the contractor has kept things progressing and several key areas are now taking shape.
The current focus is to complete works up to and just beyond Home Bargains, with more progress also happening at Stanier Square, in time for the Bletchley Big Street Eat event on 25 July 2026. This means the event can go ahead on Queensway as planned, using the western section of the street and possibly extending beyond the Elizabeth Square roundabout, depending on final confirmation from the Town Council.
Once the event has taken place, work will resume in and around Stanier Square to finish off the remaining parts of the scheme. This final stage is expected to take around six to eight weeks, with the overall project now on track for completion in September 2026.
Construction Phase
The construction phase is being project managed by the Council's Highways team on behalf of New Town Deal and will include:
- Creating a one-way system along Queensway from Albert Street to Princes Way
- Building a two-way cycle path along Queensway from Albert Street to Princes Way
- Tackling issues with footway parking with new planters and bollards
- Providing designated disabled parking bays
- Improving road safety by constructing raised table crossings on Queensway and all side streets
- New drainage system to be installed to reduce surface water
- Planting new trees and a mix of ground level beds and raised planters to enrich biodiversity.
- New street furniture and creating space for outdoor seating in front of cafes and restaurants.
- Improved street lighting
- Better signage an wayfinding
- New secure cycle stands
The work will take place in phases starting with Elizabeth Square.
