Application charges

• Building Control Charges applicable FROM 1 AUGUST 2026 (including VAT). Further information can be found in our Scheme of charges 2026.
• IMPORTANT - New fees to be introduced: Following the introduction of The Building (Local Authority Charges and Amendments Relating to Charging) (England) Regulations 2026, we are currently reviewing our Building Control charging scheme and associated processes. Any changes to charges will be published on this page once the review has been completed and the revised charging scheme has been approved.

Payment

Please do not send payments to the Planning Department — Planning and Building Control are separate services.

To avoid delays/cancellation, payment must be made within 28 calendar days of submitting your application.

On application submission, clearly specify who will be making the payment. Once we receive all required documentation, we will review your submission, may request any additional information, calculate the fee, and send an acknowledgement email with payment instructions.

How to pay:

• Phone: Call us securely on 01908 252721 to make a payment.
• Payment link: To receive a secure payment link, please provide 1) the payer’s full name 2) the email address registered with Milton Keynes City Council.
• Other methods: Call 01908 252721 for guidance. Please note: We do not accept cash or cheques.

Your application becomes valid once payment and all required information is received. Once valid, you’ll be able to book inspections.

If you have started work without making a payment (or on an invalid application), please email us with:

1. Your Building Control reference number.
2. Site location.
3. The Start date.
4. Details of work carried out.

Disability adaptation works

Building work carried out solely to provide access or facilities for a disabled person in an existing home may not be subject to Building Control charges.

To assess eligibility, we will require:

• An explanation of how the proposed works relate to the person's needs.
• Supporting evidence from a relevant healthcare professional, such as a GP or Occupational Therapist.

Please note that evidence of a disability alone (for example, a PIP award letter, Blue Badge or similar documentation) does not automatically qualify building work for relief from Building Control charges. We will require additional information to demonstrate that the proposed work is solely or directly related to meeting the needs of the disabled person.

Where a project includes works that are not directly related to the disability adaptation, charges will apply to those elements.
