Part-time school timetables

Notification of Part-Time School Timetables

The Children Missing Education Team has published guidance outlining the process for schools to notify the Local Authority when a pupil is placed on a part-time school timetable.

Schools must upload and regularly update details of a part-time timetable via the online portal: Milton Keynes Council Portal

When is a Part-Time Timetable appropriate?

In exceptional circumstances, a temporary part-time timetable may be necessary to meet a pupil’s individual needs. This may include situations where a medical condition prevents full-time attendance and a phased return is part of a reintegration plan.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

Everyone working with children and families has a role in safeguarding, as outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children (DfE, 2023).  Ofsted guidance highlights the importance of tracking children missing education. Therefore, all schools, including maintained schools, academies, free schools, and independent schools must notify the Local Authority of any part-time education arrangements.

If there are wider concerns about a child’s safety, schools and professionals should refer directly to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)

Support and Advice

  • Locality SEND Teams  provide advice and support to schools considering a part-time timetable.
  • For pupils with an EHCP, schools should consult the relevant SEN Casework Team to ensure the plan remains appropriate and deliverable.
